U16 Sisters n Sport National Netball Trophy – First Round
St. John’s Senior School 39-26 Haberdashers Girls

On Monday, St. John’s U16 Netball team played their first game of the year against Haberdashers Girls’ at home in the Sisters n Sport National Netball Trophy.
The game was very competitive in the early stages with both teams going head-to-head but St. John’s gained a narrow 4 goal lead by the end of the first quarter. Ava and Imogen worked well in the shooting circle, converting opportunities despite the opposition’s strong defence. Haberdashers responded in the second quarter, but St. John’s mid court unit, led by Zara and Arianna, helped to get the ball quickly to our shooters. St John’s continued to hold the edge and they were up 21-14 at half time. In the third quarter, the defensive trio of Joy, Freya and Karmella helped to contain the opposition’s attack and Ava and Zara, alternating between GA and C, consistently kept the pressure on in both attack and defence. St. John’s pulled away, extending their lead to 32 -18. In the final quarter, St. John’s held their ground despite the opposition’s best efforts. Freya’s work in the defensive circle disrupted a number of attacking plays, and she was crucial in bringing the ball down the court. She was deservedly named the opposition’s player of the match. Overall it was a very strong team performance with notable contributions across the court. They now head to the next round
